Disney Postcards

Walt Disney Postcards

Who is your favorite Disney character?  That is what the third graders were asked during reading class a couple weeks ago.  Each student had the opportunity to pick their favorite Disney character and write a letter to them!  They told them about themselves and why they are their favorite character!

It is with much excitement that all the 3rd graders received a post card from Disney!  Along with the individual postcard we received a letter from Mickey Mouse for the class!  Mickey's letter said, "Hi ya, Pals!  Oh, Boy thanks for all the swell letter.  It was so nice of you to think of me and my pals.  Minnie and I were just talking about how lucky we are to have such special friends like you!  Gosh, I hope you are having a great time in school... I bet you are learning some really exciting things.  The gang and I are looking forward to seeing you real soon!  You Pal, Mickey Mouse!"

Bald Eagles

The 3rd grade class has been watching the Decorah Eagles via a live video stream for about a month!  We checked on them everyday to make sure mom and dad were still sitting on the eggs!

A little history about this pair of eagles in Decorah, Iowa.  They have been observing this pair of eagles since the winter of 2007/2008.  She lays 3 eggs every year. The nest is about 4 foot wide by 4 food long and is about 3 foot deep!  The mother is 30% larger than the male!  The 3rd grade class can now the difference the female and the male eagle!  Most of the time we can tell by the eyes of the two birds!  The male has a black circle around his eyes!

2015 Timeline: When the eggs were laid.
1st Egg : February 18th at 6:07pm
2nd Egg: February 21st at 7:01pm
3rd Egg: February 25th at 6:57pm

When the eggs hatched!
1st Egg: March 27th at 6:52pm
2nd Egg: March 29th at 8:16am
3rd Egg: April 2nd at 9:45am

Did you know???
The 3rd grade class learned the eggs hatch in the order they were laid!!

These are the first two eaglets to hatch (D21 and D22)!

Feeding Time! Still one egg left on April 2nd at 8am!

A hole is beginning to appear!  April 2nd at 9:00am!

The third and final egg has hatched!  April 2nd at 9:45am!

Most of the students were able to watch 3rd Decorah Eagle hatch!  We hoped that it would happen during the school day and the 3rd one was the charm!  Exciting day for whole class!

Snowflake's Last Day in our Classroom!

She is "zipping" right on out of here!

A little Candy Cane for the flight back to the North Pole!

She even left us a little note!

Dear Mrs. Brewster’s 3rd Grade Reading Class,

Thank you for inviting me into your classroom these last two weeks!  You are a great bunch of kids and I have told Santa so much!  Keep being kind and respectful to your friends and teachers (I know you can do it)!  I hope you enjoyed the journals, bookmarks, candy, and the book, “Santa is coming to Nebraska”!  Don’t forget to take your journals home, so you can tell your families all about our time together!

I know I’m “zipping” on out of here a few days early, but my work here is done and you will be enjoying your Christmas break in just a few short hours!  I’m wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the North Pole to you!

                                                Love,
                                                SNOWFLAKE

Snowflake was able to enjoy the two snow days doing what she loves best, building a snowman!  Since she knew that the snow would melt by the time we got back to school she found some toilet paper to build us our very own classroom snowman!  Thank you Snowflake!

Want to build a snowman?

She has been waiting for us to come back to school for 4 days now, but we sure did enjoy our snow days! :)

Thursday, December 11th

Snowflake has a tummy ache from eating all that candy yesterday and needs to stay in bed today, but she made an exception so she could be in our classroom and turned the Kleenex box into her bed for the day so she could continue to keep a watchful eye on her wonderful 3rd grade class!

Snowflake has a new bed for the day!
